We want to
hear your story.

Our mission is to make what happens in state legislatures and on Capitol Hill personal, accessible, and actionable. That means sharing the real stories of Americans who have been impacted by unfair rules and regulations.

If you’ve experienced the negative effects of eminent domain, civil asset forfeiture or a burdensome occupational license first hand, we’d like to hear your story.

First, we will ask you a few questions to ensure that we understand all of the ins and outs of your story.

If your story is a good fit for Free Together, we will arrange for a follow-up interview at your convenience. It’s a simple, easy, casual process that can happen over the phone or even on Facebook messenger.

Our editorial team will start writing about your experience. In some cases, with your permission, we might send a photographer out to meet with you to take photos for your story.

And that’s it! When everything’s done, we’ll let you know that your story has been posted, and will share on our social media channels.

Is there money involved?

In a word: No. Free Together is a non-profit organization, and all our operating costs are covered by donors who believe in our mission. If you decide that you’d like to share your story with us, we cover all the costs of that process, including photographers, illustrators, and writers. We will never charge you for anything, and we will never make money from your story.

How do you decide if my story is a good fit for Free Together?

There are a few things we don’t write about: for example, we don’t write about political parties or candidates.

We prefer to focus on challenges that aren’t being covered in large newspapers and periodicals.

In order to make sure that our content is well-researched and comprehensive, we focus on only a handful of issues at a time. Right now, we’re looking for stories related to these policies:

  • Occupational Licensing
  • Eminent Domain
  • Civil Asset Forfeiture
